Martin Luther King Day of Service with City Year Rhode Island

On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, City Year Rhode Island held a community service project at Gilbert Stuart Middle School on the west side of Providence.

From 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, about 50 corps members and staff worked alongside 167 volunteers to repaint classrooms and a hallway in the basement,  give the cafeteria a new look with some murals, and freshen up the baseboards in the hallways. Of those volunteers, 38 were youth, and many were students attending Gilbert Stuart Middle School. It was very inspiring to watch these students work to transform their education environment.

At the end of the day, corps members and volunteers were able to paint 9 classrooms, 3 murals in the cafeteria, the entire basement hallway, and the hallway baseboards throughout the whole school.
