December has been a busy month over here at the Institute for the Study and Practice of Nonviolence. We just had our holiday party that was very well attended by staff, board members, and community supporters. I was shocked by the number of people who attended to show their support for our organization. I was expecting it to just be staff and AmeriCorps members in attendance. When I walked into the holiday party, I was in awe of the number of people who were there. It was really validating to see community members who really value the work that we do. There was a lot of food and great conversations going on.
This coming week, the victim services department is putting on a holiday party for the families who have lost loved ones to violence. They want to put on an event where it is okay to celebrate an upcoming holiday and to feel sad about it at the same time. This time of year is really hard for families who have lost loved ones and the victim services department is very aware of this. The event should be really great and I’m looking forward to attending it.
Our school teams are going to be having some down time due to the school break that is coming up and we plan to use this time to regroup and come up with a strong plan to start the new year with.
