2014 Update

The month of January has been all about the financial aid process for the College Advising Corps! FAFSA nights have been held and have turned out successful. One of our main priorities involve making sure that students receive all the financial aid money they can. Education is not something that all our students can afford so we try to provide all the resources possible for students to receive enough money for college.

Another exciting event this past month was Serve RI’s MLK Day! This experience was really enjoyable and rewarding. Service is something that most people just take for granted. At times people do not see the value of working together as a group to help make a community better. Martin Luther King Jr. would have wanted a group of people working together for one cause. After we finished the day it was nice to see so much change because of everyone working together in fast pace. One of my favorite quotes by Martin Luther King Jr is, “Everybody can be great…because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love”. This quote is very true because serving is something people should do naturally. People do not need degrees to serve they just simply need a heart. All of us at MLK day no matter whom we were or where we came from we served from the bottom of our hearts.
